Anyone who thinks they know music must give this album a listen. You're great American musicians knowledge is incomplete without hearing Willis Alan Ramsey.
Don't let Ramsey's goofy expression on the cover fool you. With his lone CD release, Ramsey shows equal expertise in writing songs about mourning lost love, having a good time, and everything in between. Ramsey presents listeners proof that he is one of the greatest American songwriters.
Ramsey's "Ballad of Spider John," song #1 on the CD, is one of the saddest and most striking stories ever told. Don't be dissuaded, though, by the tone of the first song. There are songs for all moods on the CD. You'll find an extreme contrast to "Ballad" in "Northeast Texas Women," an upbeat celebration of. . . . yep, you guessed it--just what the title suggests. Ramsey will have you calling your favorite lover "honeybee" after song #3. You'll have no choice but to slip the CD into the player and sit back. You won't want to skip one track.
Enjoy.
