In order to achieve a long-term source of funding for Positive Youth Development activities, the Summerland Charity Shop Society partnered with Sears Canada in 2002 to create the Penny Lane Bargain Outlet. The Penny Lane Bargain Outlet is a mechanism created to provide not only a funding source, but a job skills training ground for youth. The Penny Lane Bargain Outlet opened its doors seven years ago and has grown into two retail outlets located in downtown Summerland. The two retail outlets consist of a clothing store for the whole family and a home furnishings store.The Summerland Charity Shop Society, doing business as the Penny Lane Bargain Outlet, has reached a milestone in funding for youth in Summerland. Over the past seven years, Penny Lane has invested over ONE MILLION DOLLARS in the youth of Summerland.
