This is a receiver to buy based on what other's have said about the sound.
4 of 4 found this helpful Very nice receiver. I have a flagship Yamaha RX-Z9 receiver that I paid double for used price but was nearly five times that when new. Comparitively speaking, the Marantz SR-5004 can hold it's own, and in terms of sound is very enjoyable for movies and music. The Yamaha still sounds better, although sound is a personal preference I realize. I wish the Marantz had a usb port, but neither does the Yamaha. From other reviews of the Marantz, many have said detail is it's selling point, and I would have to concur. There is also a smoothness and non-fatiguing factor that I've always enjoyed when listening to any Marantz receiver. This receiver is a great starting point for anyone wishing to build a solid home theater around.
