Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera (Body Only)
Apr 24, 2019
Lotta bang for the buck
Like all cameras, the GH5 has it's flaws, but overall it's an excellent camera - especially at it's price. I use it almost exclusively for video. The picture quality is excellent and well above it's predesesor (the GH4). Strengths: really good built-in image stabilization that becomes even better with Panasonic lenses that also have stabilization, 4k at 60fps, decent in low-light when coupled with an f/2.8 or better lens, long battery life, no video time limit, dual card slots, solid. Weaknesses: not so great auto focus (Panasonic has improved this but it's still not the greatest - be sure to set sensitivity to low), image stabilization eats batteries faster than the GH4, but they still last fairly long (aprox. 120-150 minutes). I don't recommend using auto exposure or Intelligent Auto mode for video during daylight filming. It will fluctuate from overexposed to underexposed even when the camera is stationary and there's little movement on screen. This doesn't seem to be a problem in low-light, however.

Canon XH A1 is a great camera.
I am a wedding videographer and love the Canon XH-A1. I now own three of them. They are reliable, portable and yet serious enough to get the job done. The color reproduction is great in good lighting and better than most in low-light. Although the results are acceptable using the camera in auto mode, you can get some fabulous footage in manual mode if you know what you're doing. The optical stabilizer does a good job and the 20x zoom lens allows me to get in tight from a considerable distance. The onboard mic is not the greatest, but if you set it properly it will yield acceptable results. It can yield terrible results if you set the input gain too high, though, so use caution. The optional XLR input with phantom power is a great option. I use it for a shotgun mic on one of my A1's and have also used it to tap directly into the sound system at the event. Although HDV tape is more expensive I highly recommend using it because it does yield better results. Overall a great camcorder for the money.

Panasonic LUMIX DC-GH5S Mirrorless Micro Four Thirds Digital Camera Body (Black
Apr 19, 2018
Not perfect, but close.
I purchased the GH5S to film weddings. I'm already filming with 2 GH5's, a couple GH4's and a GH3, with a Canon GX-10 thrown in for good measure. The "S" is the best camera of the bunch primarily due to the increased low-light performance, which, in my opinion, also increases the effectiveness of the auto-focus in daylight. Prior to the 179 degree "hack" that everyone is talking about, the autofocus on the regular GH5 was shoddy at best. With the hack, that's all changed, and in my opinion, (with the hack) the auto-focus on the GH5S now works nearly as good as Canon's. With the dramatically improved low-light performance (and the GH5 wasn't all that bad in low-light to begin with) the "S" version is very nearly a perfect camera (for video). The only drawback is the lack of IBIS which the regular GH5 has and it works incredibly well. The ability to shoot 60fps 4k in low-light makes this camera well worth the investment. Other factors this camera has going for it are: relatively long battery life, no recording time-limit for video (beyond battery life), an articulating, bright LCD screen, no overheating worries, small and lightweight. Very happy with my purchase!
