History/background
We are named for Mark Twain's first short story, 'The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.' The Frog's first two locations in Hartford and West Hartford were both located less than a mile from Twain's Hartford residence on Farmington Avenue, where he wrote 'Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.' For over 20 years, the Frog was a focal point for book lovers and book collectors in the greater Hartford area. At its height the Frog was the largest secondhand bookshop in New England, featuring over 100,000 volumes and a vast collection of ephemeral items: magazines, pamphlets, programs, postcards, posters, and more.
In our new online incarnation, we have embarked upon the ambitious project of matching every printed item in our inventory with its perfect owner, anywhere in the world.
